Habřina

Habřina combines an unusually well-documented Protestant history with landscape experiences around Sedlo and Lake Chmelař. Habřina is located on road II/260 between Malé Březno and Úštěk.

Protestant history at the northern end of the village

The Protestant church in Habřina was built from 1850 to 1853 by the Protestant congregation, which received financial support from the Gustav-Adolf-Verein. Together with the former Protestant parish, the Late Classicist church belonged to one of the oldest Protestant congregations in the formerly German-speaking area of Bohemia. The church, together with the former Protestant school, stands at the northern end of Habřina near a bus stop.

The former Protestant parish was built in 1851. Until 1926, in addition to housing the pastor and his family, it also accommodated a one-class school and a teacher’s residence. The former Protestant school existed as a German Protestant school until 1924. The Protestant grounds also included their own cemetery, established in 1861.

A Protestant orphanage with extensive ancillary buildings was built next to the parish in 1911. This part of the Protestant grounds gradually fell into disrepair after 1945 and was eventually demolished. The former Protestant parish is now privately owned, carefully restored, and offered as holiday accommodation.

Sedlo, nature reserve and viewpoint

A plot of land in the cadastral area of Habřina u Úštěku lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area (CHKO České středohoří). A hiking route leads from Habřina to the summit of Sedlo. The summit and its immediate surroundings have been protected as a national nature reserve since 1968 because of the occurrence of rare plants. Sedlo also has a viewpoint with views to the south, west and east.

This makes it possible to clearly distinguish between different excursion interests: The church and former Protestant grounds represent local history, while the route to Sedlo, the nature reserve and the viewpoint open up the surrounding landscape. In the vicinity of Habřina, Lake Chmelař offers two prepared beaches for relaxation and active leisure activities. A field path from the nearest Úštěk railway station is also relevant for planning: It runs along the Chmelař pond to Habřina and is listed as just under 3 km long.

A bus route between Ústí nad Labem, Úštěk and Konojedy runs near the church. This connection complements the location on road II/260 and provides another point of reference when choosing a starting point.
