Local History and Ecclesiastical Heritage

The oldest written record of the village of Chotěšov dates back to 1057. In 1144, King Vladislav I donated Chotěšov to the newly founded Premonstratensian convent in Doksany. The Chotěšov parish was re-established in 1852. The present day also preserves traces of earlier settlement: the built-up area of the village and its immediate surroundings are registered as an area with archaeological finds.

An important historical landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was rebuilt from the ground up between 1730 and 1737 and was first documented as property of the Doksany monastery as early as 1352. On 15 August 1737, the Madonna of Chotěšov, a Gothic wooden statue of the Virgin Mary, was brought in a procession from the church in Libochovice to Chotěšov. This day was also the day on which the new church was consecrated. For your visit, it is important to know that no regular services are held there and that the church is not accessible to people with disabilities.

The rectory complex at house no. 37 comprises the rectory, a barn with a stable, another barn, the gardener's house, the rectory garden, a front garden, a gate, an enclosing wall with a small wicket gate, and a garden gate.

Transport and Routes Around Chotěšov

Regional railway line no. 114 from Lovosice to Louny and Žatec runs through the western part of the administrative area of the municipality of Chotěšov. The Chotěšov pod Hazmburkem railway stop is located there. Regular bus services connect Chotěšov with Lovosice and Libochovice, as well as with Litoměřice and Libochovice. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore also take the documented train and bus connections into account.

Neither a hiking trail nor a cycling route runs through Chotěšov itself. The nearest hiking trail is marked in red and runs west around Chotěšov, through the southern area near Libochovice to Doksany in the east.
