Vranov: Pilgrimage, Forests and Cycle Route

Church with a Baroque history

The present-day Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a Baroque church. Its construction began in the first half of the 17th century on the site of a church dating from 1240. Several centuries of church history are therefore layered at this location. The church also contains a family crypt of the Liechtensteins, built in the first half of the 19th century.

The pilgrimage church was associated with a monastery of the Order of Saint Francis of Paola and a large monastery garden. This combination of pilgrimage, monastic history and garden grounds makes the church a prominent cultural point of reference for your visit to Vranov.

Pilgrimage route and cycle route

The Sedmiradostná cesta pilgrimage route leads from Lelekovice to Vranov. Those who approach Vranov along this route connect the village with an established pilgrimage route rather than with a visit to a single church alone. Lelekovice and Vranov are the two clear reference points of the route, while the cycle route describes a different connection through the area.

For cycling, the Pivní stezka Petra Bezruče is a good option. The cycle route runs through Vranov u Brna between Brno-Řečkovice and Černá Hora. It is approximately 28 kilometres long and leads mainly through the forests around Vranov and Černá Hora. The route alternates between paved and gravel paths and runs largely away from road traffic. When choosing a route, you can take into account not only its approximate length but also the change between paved and gravel surfaces. Vranovské lesy and its landscape features

Vranov u Brna lies within the Vranovské lesy. The Babí lom ridge and the Ponávka Valley are considered significant attractions in this woodland area. Getting there and accommodation

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary can be reached by bus routes 41 and 57, getting off at the “Vranov, křižovatka” stop. There is a car park by the church. Duchovní centrum Vranov offers accommodation for individuals, families, pilgrims and groups. The bus routes and car park provide two different options for travelling to the church.
