Strážovice lies on the southwestern slope of the 417-metre-high Babí lom hill. Late Baroque Buildings and Jan Köhler

One of Strážovice’s notable buildings is the filial Chapel of the Holy Trinity. It is a late Baroque building with a dynamically designed three-axis façade featuring valuable Baroque sculptural decoration. The original chapel was built between 1751 and 1753 and was enlarged into a church in 1792. Opposite the chapel stands a Baroque manor house from the first half of the 18th century. The precise juxtaposition of these two buildings also makes the village interesting for visitors who wish to view architecture not only individually, but also in its local context.

Another trace of the village’s history leads to the local cemetery. There you will find the grave of the painter Jan Köhler, decorated with a Madonna mosaic he created himself during his lifetime. Jan Köhler lived in Strážovice from 1926 to 1941. His name is thus connected both with the history of the village and with a specific artistic detail in the cemetery.

Living Tradition

The Krojované hody are among the explicitly handed-down festivals in Strážovice. They include a procession in traditional costume, traditional songs and dancing. On Sunday, a mass in the local chapel is also on the programme. Babí lom, Fields and Cycling Connections

Cyclists can reach Babí lom via a paved road. In addition, Strážovice is connected to the Kyjovská vinařská cyklostezka cycling trail.

Hilly fields with solitary trees and field copses stretch south of Strážovice. The solitary trees and field copses create visible accents in the hilly landscape south of the village. This landscape is compared to Tuscany. The paths to Babí lom and the connection to the Kyjovská vinařská cyklostezka make it possible to explore the landscape actively. Wine cellars have survived to this day on the strážovice Lúčkách; they are known there as “búdy”.
