Svatý Antonínek and Pilgrimages

Svatý Antonínek is a 350-metre-high hill between Blatnice pod Svatým Antonínkem and Ostrožská Lhota. It forms the last foothill of the White Carpathians and is therefore a defining landscape feature of the surrounding area. A chapel stands on the hill and is open to pilgrims and tourists all year round. Pilgrimages are held there regularly, including the local and main pilgrimage in June, the Thanksgiving and Harvest Pilgrimage on the last Sunday in August, and the All Souls' pilgrimage in October. This means that a stay can be combined both with an experience of the landscape and with a living religious tradition.

Wine Cellars and Moravian Event Culture

A particular cultural focus is the Pod Starou horou heritage reserve. The Vinné búdy Pod Starou horou form a protected heritage reserve in Blatnice pod Svatým Antonínkem. They are characterised by wine cellars with above-ground press houses arranged in a single row. This architectural form gives visitors a concrete insight into the local wine tradition, without the cellars having to be viewed merely as individual buildings. Events also highlight the local character. The traditional Blatnické vinobraní wine festival opens the wine cellars and offers wine and burčák tastings. The programme also includes a folk costume procession and a cultural programme. During Putování po blatnických búdách, around 30 local wine cellars are open to visitors. Depending on the date, you can therefore get to know the village either through its historic cellar complexes or through community festivals and tastings.

Museum, Planetarium and Landscape

The Blatnické Museum focuses on local life. Its exhibits include craft tools, household equipment, elements of folk costumes, historic photographs and documents. Particularly unusual are an exhibition of a sewing workshop with 30 sewing machines and a collection of 13,000 buttons. The museum complements the wine cellars and pilgrimage sites with an insight into the everyday history of the community. Another way to explore the area is the Planetární stezka planet trail. Each station features a scale model of a planet and an information panel with basic details and further information about the respective planet. As a contrast in the landscape, the Střečkův kopec nature monument lies about 1.5 kilometres northeast of Blatnice pod Svatým Antonínkem. It can be reached via a clay field path.

Blatnice pod Svatým Antonínkem can be reached by bus and train. The railway station is about two kilometres from the village. Other places useful for orientation are Strážovice, Vracov, Mutěnice, Kyjov, Kelčany, Dolní Bojanovice, Nový Poddvorov and Kněždub.
