St. Joseph’s Church and modern sacred art

St. Joseph’s Church in Senetářov was built between 1969 and 1971 in place of a chapel. It was consecrated on 7 July 1991. The building therefore tells not only of religious tradition but also of a comparatively recent architectural history. A notable artistic feature is the Stations of the Cross by the artist and academic painter Mikuláš Medek. Anyone interested in architecture and art will find here a tangible counterpoint to the area’s older historical traces.

The Museum of Traditional Living and Mother-of-Pearl Processing in Senetářov presents the 14 stages involved in making mother-of-pearl buttons—from working with the raw shell to sewing the finished buttons onto cards. The museum is housed in a preserved rural homestead made of unfired bricks and covered with a thatched roof. This combination of domestic culture, building and manufacturing process conveys more than a single exhibit could.

Windmill and the history of Bystřec

The Ruprechtov Windmill is located in the vicinity of Senetářov, where a Halladay turbine was installed between 1882 and 1884. The windmill is a technical monument. Its inclusion on the national cultural monuments list and the UNESCO list has been proposed; this status should therefore be understood as a proposal rather than a completed inscription.

The abandoned settlement of Bystřec offers a different historical perspective. It was founded in the mid-13th century, and its first written mention dates from 1349. A green hiking trail along the Senetářovský potok stream leads to the settlement. This makes it possible to combine a hike with reflection on medieval settlement history, without reducing the site to merely an abstract date.

Cycling in the Rakovecké Valley

Senetářov also offers a clear point of reference for a cycling trip. The cycling route through the Rakovecké Valley in the surrounding area is 28 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. It follows a stream through a peaceful landscape. In addition, cycling route 5079 passes through Senetářov. This provides two different points of reference: a specifically described tour through the valley and a route that runs directly through the village.
