Olomučany between the Highlands and the Moravian Karst

Olomučany lies on the northwestern edge of the Drahanská vrchovina Highlands, in hilly terrain and on the edge of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. Much of the cadastral area is covered by mixed forests. This allows the village to combine nature experiences with individual cultural attractions and seasonal events. When choosing accommodation, it is particularly useful to consider which aspect of the village should be the focus: trails and springs, castle ruins, regional history or summer recreation.

Forest Landscapes, Springs and Views

Around Olomučany, hiking and cycling routes connect directly to trails leading into and out of the Moravian Karst. Almost all the springs in the area can be reached on foot or by bicycle and are popular excursion destinations. The Lesnický Slavín landscape feature includes numerous forest springs, most of them restored and well maintained. There is also a well-kept forest park around the U srnce spring.

A prominent landmark is the Máchův památník memorial, located approximately in the middle of Lesnický Slavín. The monument stands at an elevation of 508 metres. In good visibility, the view extends to the Pálava Hills and the nearest peaks of the Austrian Alps. The local geology belongs to the so-called Brno igneous or eruptive massif, which consists partly of limestone. At Čertův hrádek, an important geological and geomorphological formation as well as remnants of natural fir-beech stands are also protected.

Hiking, Cycling and Historic Sites

The landscape offers various options for active days. The “Cyklovýlet ve stínu Kojálu” cycling route is suitable for mountain bikes, electric bicycles, gravel bikes, trekking bikes and road bikes. The ruins of Čertův hrádek and Nový hrad lie within the cadastral area of Olomučany. Nový hrad is a highly significant castle complex that has been continuously used for various purposes since the 14th century. The two sites give a tour through the wooded surroundings a historical focus, without requiring nature and cultural experiences to be separated.

Ceramics, the Church and Local Events

The village’s history is also reflected in its ceramics. Olomučany ceramics were produced in the municipality in the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. A permanent exhibition about these ceramics is located in the municipal office and can be visited by arrangement with the municipal office. Another visible testimony to the village’s history is the Kostel Božského Srdce Páně church, built in 1939–1940.

The events calendar complements the permanent attractions with practical and social experiences. At the recurring Velikonoční pomlázkování event, visitors can weave a pomlázka or make a wreath. The Olomučanský košt vína combines a wine tasting featuring wines from four Moravian wineries with cimbalom music. The Včelařské odpoledne event includes tastings, demonstrations and workshops.

Summer Break and Getting There

During the summer months, the Bahňák recreation area offers the opportunity to swim and enjoy small refreshments. This creates a different daily rhythm from hiking to the springs or cycling through the hilly landscape. Blansko is an important transport hub for getting there: Olomučany can be reached by bus from Blansko, 4 km away. The Brno–Česká Třebová railway corridor also runs through Blansko. Those looking for accommodation can therefore choose the village according to their preferred mix of nature, culture, seasonal recreation and the documented transport connections.
