Olbramovice – History, Calvary and Cycling Route

Olbramovice is a destination for travellers who want to combine historic architecture, archaeological traces and sporting activities. One of Olbramovice’s defining buildings is the parish church of St. James the Elder. It is a late Gothic two-nave building with rib vaults resting on two massive stone columns. By contrast, the Roman Catholic rectory is a Baroque building from the second half of the 17th century. Several smaller monuments add to this historic picture. Calvary is a small hill approximately seven metres high, with a cross and stone steps at the summit. Evidence was found from the Early Iron Age in the 6th century BC, from the later Roman-Barbarian period in the 3rd to 4th centuries AD, as well as a fortress from the 13th century. Calvary thus combines a religious monument with traces of several historical periods. Sports, Events and Cycling

The Olbramovice sports complex includes a grass field, a replacement sand field, an asphalt surface with a court for national handball, partially renovated changing rooms, a covered grandstand and a refreshment facility. Various sports and entertainment events, as well as football tournaments, take place there. Two events were also scheduled for 2026: the seventh edition of “Olbramovická lávka” was planned for Saturday, 18 July 2026, from 1 p.m. at Rašelák Pond in Olbramovice. The third edition of the “Pivní slavnosti” was scheduled for Saturday, 4 July 2026, from 1 p.m. at Kavárna nad palírnou in Olbramovice. For an active itinerary, consider the “Around Moravský Krumlov” cycling route. The moderately difficult circular route is 42.1 kilometres long and runs via Šumice and Olbramovice to Bohutice. This specific route makes it possible to include Olbramovice in a cycling tour without treating the town solely as a cultural destination.
