Discover Miroslavské Knínice

Miroslavské Knínice combines a distinctive cultural landscape with a castle, a naturally designed park and an early Gothic church. The village lies on the boundary between the Bobravská vrchovina highlands and the Dyjskosvratecký úval basin. The valley of the Našiměřický potok stream runs from west to southeast through the middle of the cadastral area; most of the area is agricultural land. This creates a village landscape in which architectural heritage and open countryside lie closely alongside one another.

Castle, Park and Protected Nature

The castle in Miroslavské Knínice is registered as a cultural monument. The single-storey, two-winged, four-sided building encloses a trapezoidal courtyard. It is surrounded by a naturally designed landscape park. The castle park is one of the protected parts of the registered immovable cultural monument and thus forms an important component of the village’s cultural landscape.

The castle park is also home to the protected site “Dvojice červených buků v zámeckém parku Miroslavské Knínice”. The protected pair of beech trees was first designated on 30 June 2015 and is classified as a group of trees.

Church and Local Traditions

Another distinctive religious building is the subsidiary Church of Saint Nicholas. It is an early Gothic church dating from the second half of the 13th century. The church is associated with a pilgrimage and a church festival. The church festival takes place on the Sunday around Wenceslas Day, 28 September. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is also registered as an immovable cultural monument. Together, these architectural and minor monuments give the village a historical character that is not limited to the castle.

Local events also draw on regional customs. The traditional “Zarážení hory” event at the Chapel of Saint Urban includes the blessing of the harvest, the symbolic locking of the vineyard, the erection of a maypole and the appointment of vineyard guards. These individual elements help explain the character of the festival: it combines religious references, the agricultural cycle of the year and the winemaking tradition.

Cycle Route and Wine from the Znojmo Region

Cycle route 5009 passes through Miroslavské Knínice and provides a way to explore the landscape. It runs mainly along paved Class II and Class III roads suitable for all types of bicycles. The route is therefore a specific reference point for planning a cycling trip through the agricultural surroundings, without limiting the village to a single form of travel.

A culinary and regional aspect is represented by the 14th Wine Presentation of wines from the Znojmo wine-growing region. It takes place on the last Saturday in March in the castle hall of Miroslavské Knínice; the programme begins at 10 a.m. Together with “Zarážení hory”, this event highlights the village’s connection with wine in different ways: once as a festival featuring symbolic actions in the vineyard, and once as a presentation of wines from the Znojmo wine-growing region.
