Omice

Omice brings together natural surroundings and local history within a compact area. The Bobrava Nature Park lies within the cadastral area; the railway station, Bučín educational trail and historical landmarks reveal different facets of the locality. Amid deciduous forests, hiking trails, Romanesque architectural history and archaeological traces, exploration of the landscape and cultural history come together directly.

Bobrava Nature Park and Trails through the Landscape

Bobrava Nature Park is located within the cadastral area of Omice. The Bučín educational trail lies near the locality and leads through the nature park and the Bučín forest area. Deciduous forests with oaks, beeches and hornbeams shape the landscape there. The nature park and forest area thus provide the educational trail with a clear natural setting.

A yellow-marked hiking trail begins at Omice railway station. It leads over the summit of Tmavý žlíbek and past Bučín in the direction of Rosice. Its route thus connects the railway station with a summit, the forest area and the trails towards Rosice, without its starting point being in the village centre.

In addition to information about nature, the Bučín educational trail conveys historical content. This includes the remains of an old inn on the country road, which was burned down during the Thirty Years' War. The educational trail also provides information about a medieval trade route that led through the forests from Brno to Ivančice. The historical topics therefore range from a specific wartime building to a medieval transport connection.

Church, Fortress and Local Culture

A prominent cultural landmark in Omice is the Church of St. James the Greater. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 29182/7-858. The building is Romanesque and was constructed around the 12th century or by the beginning of the 13th century at the latest. The church thus represents a sacred building whose dating reaches back to the Middle Ages.

The archaeological remains of the medieval fortress of Omice include stone foundations more than one metre thick. The fortress is therefore represented by archaeological structural elements, while the church, as a Romanesque building, offers a different approach to the history of the locality. This very difference makes Omice's historical landmarks diverse.

Omice is also associated with the adult folk ensemble Folklorní soubor Omičan. Alongside the church, fortress and educational trail, regional traditions are therefore another of the themes that shape the locality.

Getting There and Further Locality Selection

Omice railway station is step-free accessible to all platforms. In accordance with ČSN 73 4959, the platforms have a standard height of 550 mm above the top of the rail. The station is therefore both the starting point of the yellow-marked hiking trail and a practical point of orientation for arriving visitors.
