Kostice – Culture, Morava Floodplain and Regional Experiences

Kostice combines a distinctive local tradition with cultural monuments, water-based experiences and the landscape along the Morava. Particularly unusual is the Bahenní párty: a traditional three-day music and motorcycle event that has been held in Kostice since 1995. In the eastern part of the cadastral area lies the floodplain of the Morava River. Thus, two different sides come together during a stay: an explicitly festive event and a landscape that unfolds along the river.

Chapels and Small Cultural Monuments

An important landmark is the Chapel of Saint Theresa. It was built in 1857 and consecrated in 1861. Its location at a crossroads towards Břeclav, Lanžhot and Tvrdonice also makes it a clearly identifiable point in the surrounding area. In 2021, the chapel received a new ornamental pattern decorating all four sides. For visitors interested in culture, its appeal therefore lies not only in the building itself but also in its later design.

The history of the local religious buildings also includes the former Chapel of the Holy Cross. It was demolished in 1930 and rebuilt a little farther away. Balíkových kaplička stands on the border between Kostice and Lanžhot. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is also located near the Chapel of Saint Theresa. These closely connected details do not create a major museum experience, but rather a series of small discoveries in the townscape and at its transitions.

Fishing Waters, Gatherings and Fish Dishes

Kostický rybník reveals another side of Kostice. The body of water is managed by the Kostice local branch of the Moravian Anglers’ Union. Twice a year, it hosts a spring and an autumn gathering for anglers and non-anglers. During the summer holidays, local residents and visitors from elsewhere can eat fried and smoked fish at Rybářský výlet. Thus, alongside the landscape, specific local events and a regional food culture are also at the centre. If you are travelling with different interests, this allows you to balance your stay in Kostice between culture, events and water-based experiences.

Flat Cycling Route and Traditional Folk House

For a cycling trip through the landscape along the Morava, the 31 km cycling route from Břeclav to Hodonín is documented. It passes through flat terrain along the Morava River. The clearly stated route length and the described terrain provide a concrete framework for your planning, without implying that the route guarantees specific services or attractions on site.

The museum in the traditional folk house also forms part of Kostice’s cultural perspective. It intends to participate in the “Víkend památkových domků” project, which traditionally takes place at the beginning of June. The tentative status is important here: what is described is the museum’s planned participation, not participation that has already been confirmed. When choosing your accommodation in Kostice, you can therefore first decide whether to focus on the town’s cultural heritage, the fishing waters, the Bahenní párty or a cycling tour along the Morava.
