Borkovany Between Handicrafts, Landscape and Local History

Borkovany offers several distinct points of interest for a trip that brings together local tradition, historical details and the landscape. Particularly characteristic are the Borkovanské kraslice, a folk art tradition passed down from generation to generation. The Expozice also includes a demonstration on site. A local craftswoman demonstrates Résování, making a specific part of the inherited decorative practice visible. Cultural Monuments and Crosses Made Accessible Again

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is also part of the village's history. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument. Another notable detail is the gate of the Protestant cemetery. It has a square ground plan and a bell-tower level and dates from 1857. The gate is regarded as an architecturally unique structure and an important art-historical monument of Borkovany.

In the cadastral territory of Borkovany, a total of nine crosses were professionally reconstructed in 2018. The reconstructed crosses were placed at their original locations or nearby so that they could once again be accessed. In terms of local history, they are therefore significant not only as preserved individual objects, but also because of their return to their respective spatial contexts.

Forest, Fishpond and a Marked Cycling Route

The “Líchy” forest near Borkovany is the last outlying part of Ždánický les. As a natural area, it complements the cultural and historical themes with a natural character. Another way to incorporate the village into a more active travel itinerary is offered by a marked cycling route: it connects the Lednice-Valtice Area with the Battle of Austerlitz battlefield and passes through Borkovany.
