Discover Božice: Cycling, Nature and Historic Places

Božice can be discovered through historic landmarks, wine country and nature trails. The Obecní sklep is particularly characteristic: its main section consists of a vaulted passage 45 metres long and 3 to 4 metres wide. The ratio of length to width defines the structure as an elongated vaulted space. The cellar has been renovated and is now considered a noteworthy attraction from a historical perspective. It probably originated in the mid-18th century and is of considerable historical value. Inside, the unusual longitudinal extent therefore determines the impression of the space.

Historic Places and Regional Culture

In České Křídlovice, the parish church of St Peter and Paul has a late Romanesque core dating from 1225. Its Gothic tower was added later. The church thus combines a late Romanesque core with a later Gothic element. Božice is also home to the Bílý kříž, dating from 1767, which was restored by the municipality of Božice in 2012. There are 245 years between its construction in 1767 and its restoration in 2012.

The romantic Samota hunting lodge is also one of Božice’s attractions. The hunting lodge adds an architectural accent alongside the church and cellar. The two choirs of Božice also provide a cultural highlight. Their Christmas concerts take place in the local church and have become known beyond the region.

Cycling and a Short Nature Trail

For cyclists, the Znojmo Cycling Route passes through Božice. It connects 55 wine-growing municipalities in the Znojmo wine subregion. Božice is therefore part of a regional connection through the Znojmo wine subregion. In contrast to this connection linking many municipalities, the Údolím lásky educational and recreational trail is a single route, approximately 5.4 kilometres long, through easily accessible terrain.

The Údolím lásky educational and recreational trail runs through the picturesque valley of the Příční potok, along the Horní Karlov, Prostřední Karlov and Božický rybník ponds, and around the Karlov nature reserve. The route therefore follows a valley, three ponds and a protected natural area.

Wetlands and Recreation

Niva pod Božicemi comprises two ecological wetlands that serve for walks and the sharing of knowledge. There is also an aquatic and wetland biotope on the Božický potok. The additional biotope along the stream complements Niva pod Božicemi with another wetland site. While Niva pod Božicemi consists of two wetlands, the additional biotope is located directly along the stream.

Božice’s leisure facilities also include a sports and rehabilitation centre. It offers a saltwater pool, a whirlpool, a sauna and a solarium. The centre thus provides water-based facilities alongside heat and relaxation options. It therefore brings together water, heat and relaxation facilities.
