Vlksice: Fortress, Nature Park and Toulava

Vlksice is located in the Toulava tourist region on the border between South Bohemia and Central Bohemia. The village lies in a valley between the Smutná stream and the Dobřemilický stream. Hilly Landscape in the Nature Park

In the Vlksice area, the Jistebnická vrchovina Nature Park protects a varied hilly landscape with fields, meadows and small woodland areas. It is one of the area's important natural assets and is a protected area. The landscape provides the village with a natural setting and creates a clear focus for anyone wishing to combine culture and protected nature during their stay. Fields, meadows and small woodland areas alternate as visible landscape features; on foot or by bicycle, this changing scenery can be experienced at a leisurely pace.

Vlksice Fortress: History with a Clearly Defined Visiting Framework

Vlksice Fortress is not freely open to the public. Visits can be arranged by prior agreement with the owner, who guides visitors through the fortress in historical costume. In addition, recurring open-air performances by Divadlo Kašpar take place at the fortress. For your planning, the organised form of the visit is therefore the key consideration. Visiting the fortress thus requires an arrangement and a guided tour, rather than a spontaneous walk-through.

Remains of Renaissance sgraffito are visible on Vlksice Fortress and the adjoining courtyard wall. A black kitchen has been preserved inside the fortress; its chimney is unique in Central Europe due to its size. At House No. 1 in Vlksice, an earthwork embankment with an elevation that remains visible to this day probably marks the site of a fortified feudal residence that already existed at the beginning of the 14th century. These traces connect the visible design of the courtyard wall with the preserved kitchen and the probably older earthwork embankment.

Chapel and Memorial Sites in the Village

The village square in Vlksice is home to the Neo-Romanesque chapel from 1900. It has a small choir gallery. A memorial plaque commemorating the victims of the First World War is mounted on its façade. The square therefore brings several distinct historical references together in one place. The construction period, interior and remembrance of the war victims can all be considered here in a single building.

Sport Fishing and Public Bus Connections

Sport fishing is available at Rybník Dolejší in Vlksice. There are three fishing platforms, each with space for a maximum of two anglers. If you plan to take advantage of this leisure option, the limited capacity per platform is a specific factor to consider. The limit per platform is particularly relevant when planning with several people.

Vlksice has a bus stop. Public bus services from Vlksice to Milevsko, Nadějkov and Chyšky are adequately provided. Those incorporating public transport into their plans can use the three directions as specific reference points for planning their journey.
