Discover Oslov: Culture, Nature and Trails Around the Village

Oslov combines local history with natural and hiking destinations that can be explored in various ways. Several distinctive religious buildings stand in the village; outside it, ponds, protected landscapes, signposted trails and a railway bridge shape the surrounding area. This gives you a choice of travel experiences ranging from cultural monuments and nature observation to marked trails.

Cultural Monuments in Oslov

At the northern edge of Oslov, along the road towards Zvíkov, stands the early Baroque roadside shrine boží muka. It is a plastered masonry pillar with a solid cube-shaped base and an irregularly cylindrical shaft. It is topped by a cube-shaped lantern structure.

At the edge of Oslov stands the Chapel of St. Anne, Kaple sv. Anny. It was built between 1545 and 1548 on the site of a former hermitage. A Baroque painting of Saint Anne from the first half of the 18th century hangs above the altar. In the centre of Oslov, on the north side of the village square, there is also the Church of St. Linhart, Kostel sv. Linharta. It was originally Gothic; historic rib vaults and a coffered ceiling have been preserved inside.

Between 1886 and 1889, a valuable railway steel truss bridge was built in the Oslov area over the Orlík Reservoir. The bridge is 253 metres long and has an upper-deck roadway. This major technical structure thus complements the village’s religious and rural cultural heritage.

Nature Between Pond and Protected Area

Židovna Pond is a local pond with yellow iris flowers along its banks and carp anglers. A protected natural area with the Church of St. Anne, sv. Anny, has been designated on the Svatá Anna peninsula. These two descriptions show different landscape features: here, the pond and its banks are the focus, while there, the natural area is combined with a church building.

The Výří skály Nature Reserve lies approximately two kilometres from Oslov. In the Krkavčina area, a remnant of relict pine forest grows on silicate soil, with occurrences of bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi). For your planning, Oslov therefore offers both a nearby protected area and a distinctive botanical detail in the wider surroundings.

Educational Trails and Hiking Connections

The Partyzánská educational trail runs through the western surroundings of Oslov and presents the history of resistance and partisan activity in this area. It is 6.3 kilometres long and runs from the Oslov bus stop via Černý vrch, U Chyšáka samoty, U Chyšáků, the confluence of the Otava and Lomnice rivers and Pazderny to the Oslov cemetery.

A green-marked hiking trail from Tukleky leads to the Výří skály Nature Reserve and then continues to Zvíkov Castle. This allows you to distinguish an educational trail with a focus on local history from a marked connection to natural and cultural destinations, without equating the two routes. Oslov also provides a map portal through which the municipal map and cadastral map can be displayed and the land registry system accessed.
