Veselka – Educational Trail, Fortifications and Local History

Veselka combines a focus on history with a clearly described educational trail and individual insights into local culture. The “Totality Divides – Democracy Unites” educational trail is 7.5 kilometres long. It leads via a turn-off to Veselka and is primarily intended for pedestrians. Cyclists can also use the educational trail, but must take one specific restriction into account: they cannot turn off to Stop No. 5. The route is therefore not designed in the same way for all means of transport on every section. From the Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications in Veselka, a green-marked route leads to the educational trail. Thus, the historic fortifications and the marked path are connected in a documented way, without any specific distance between the individual points having to be inferred from this.

Fortification history around Veselka

In Veselka, the preserved fortification object No. 33 of type A-140Z is the only surviving object in this section of the fortification line. A museum of Czechoslovak fortifications is housed in the preserved fortification object. Near Veselka there is also the reinforced-concrete bunker A-140–33-Z (řopík), a preserved relic of the first border fortification line from 1937–38.

Mill, monument and technical details

The Kolínův mlýn mill in Veselka is part of the locality’s history. It contains a preserved Francis turbine manufactured by J. C. Bernard, Karlínská továrna na stroje, Prague. A brake stone stands opposite the mill in Veselka. Another point of cultural and historical interest is Farm No. 2 in Veselka: it is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Together, these places do not constitute an arbitrary list of sights, but show various forms of the preserved local heritage – from technical equipment and an individual object to an officially protected farmstead.
