Rudolfov and Its Silver-Mining History

Rudolfov combines a historic mining heritage with cultural discoveries and garden attractions. In 1585, a privilege granted by Rudolf II elevated the town to a free mining town with extensive privileges. A roughly sixty-year period of productive silver mining was of undeniable importance for the development of the surrounding area. This history is brought to life at the Perkmistrovský House: The building was constructed in 1591 as the seat of the royal mining official, the perkmistr, and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

After its renovation and ceremonial reopening on September 13, 2014, the Perkmistrovský House has served as the Mining Museum, a tourist information center and a specialist library. The Rudolfov Mining Museum presents three exhibitions: on the history of mining in Rudolfov, on Emperor Rudolf II and alchemy, and on the life of the town from the Napoleonic Wars to the present day. The thematic scope thus extends from the founding of the mining town to more recent urban history.

Church and Living Tradition

A second historical focal point is the Renaissance Church of St. Vitus. It was built between 1556 and 1583, was originally Protestant and has been Catholic since 1636.
