Vysoký Hrádek: From Manor House to Information Centre

Vysoký Hrádek was built as a manor house by the Lords of Březí and was later expanded into a fortress. During the rule of Václav Malovec, the fortress was converted into a small chateau. The history of the site can therefore be traced through several phases of architectural development.

After extensive structural reconstruction, Vysoký Hrádek once again opened to the public in October 1997 as the information centre of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. Temelín 13: Farm Complex on the Village Square

The rural farm complex at Temelín 13 is located on the southern side of the elongated village square. It includes a freestanding granary opposite the residential building. Both buildings face the village square and are separated from each other by a stucco-decorated enclosing wall with a gate and wicket gate. Anyone interested in regional architectural forms can observe here how the square, buildings and enclosure work together.

Road, Bus and Cycle Route

Vysoký Hrádek can be reached from Hluboká nad Vltavou via Road 105; the route is 16.7 km long. Free parking is available directly at the visitor centre. The visitor centre can also be reached by bus, getting off at the “Březí u Týna, JE” stop.

Another option is the cycle route to the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. It leads from Purkarec via cycle routes CT 1091 and CT 1095 and continues through Býšov to the site. The 16.7 km refers to the road connection from Hluboká nad Vltavou; the bus information names a specific stop, while the cycle route has its own course via Purkarec, Býšov and the two CT routes. Thus, not only the means of transport but also the starting points and the route sections described are different. You can therefore consider these arrival options separately when planning your day.
