Dinin – Culture and Pond Landscape in Dynín

Dinin combines a remarkable historic village center with a landscape shaped by ponds, bodies of water and marshes. In the village itself, the settlement structure and individual historic buildings take center stage, while the surrounding area is characterized by wetlands and pond systems.

Historic Structures Around the Village Square

Dynín was designated a village with a protected heritage conservation area on November 19, 1990. The farmsteads are arranged around a large, almost rectangular village square. The nearly rectangular shape of the square and the arrangement of the farmsteads define the layout of the historic village center.

Characteristic elements include the ensemble of granaries dating from the 19th century. Mostly simple façades, triangular gables and sawtooth ornamentation define its appearance. In Dynín, a number of masonry vernacular buildings from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries have also been preserved.

One particularly thoroughly documented example is Farmstead No. 25. The registered immovable cultural monument comprises a residential section, a granary, a gateway and wicket gate, stables, and a barn. The residential section, farm buildings and access elements have been preserved together as part of this monument. The historic evidence places different aspects in the foreground: in the village square, the arrangement of the farmsteads; in the case of the granaries, the design of individual buildings. Farmstead No. 25 combines a residential section, farm buildings and access elements in a single monument complex. The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas is also among the municipality’s most important sights. The village’s 20th-century history is tangible as well: construction of the school began in April 1923, and classes started there as early as October of the same year. Only a few months passed between the start of construction and the start of classes.

Ponds, Marshes and Protected Landscape

The eastern part of the municipality lies within the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. Nearby is Hliníř, designated a natural monument in the cadastral territories of Bošilec and Lhota u Dynína. Hliníř protects a valuable transitional bog ecosystem with protected and endangered plant and animal species.

The small marshland area contains several shallow pools and adjoins a pond. Hliníř also includes aquatic habitats with shoreline vegetation and scattered woody growth. Dolní dynínský Pond belongs to the Záblatská pond system.

The history of the water system also goes back a long way. The former village of Německá Lhota was flooded during the expansion of Záblatský Pond in 1580–1582, together with its farmsteads.
