Radslav: Cycling Routes, Views and History at Lipno Reservoir

Radslav is a holiday settlement on a peninsula beyond Bližná, about 4 km from Černá v Pošumaví. Its character is defined by its location on Lipno Reservoir, expansive views and routes that combine cycling with the landscape and history. On the top of the peninsula is a well-known viewpoint: from there, the view extends across the surface of Lipno Reservoir from Horní Planá to Kovářov and over the entire Šumava Mountains.

Village Square and Local History

On the village square stands the individually protected Radslav Linden Tree next to the local chapel. The chapel in Radslav currently contains a map of the original buildings of Radslav before the area was flooded by Lipno Reservoir. The reconstruction of the chapel was completed in September 1995. Radslav therefore offers not only scenic impressions but also a direct connection to the history of the place.

Cycling Between Bays and Viewpoints

The Jestřábí Loop is 8 km long and can be completed by a family cycling at a leisurely pace in less than 50 minutes. This route includes the Radslav Rest Area with a Viewpoint as an interesting stop. The most demanding climb on the Jestřábí Loop in Radslav is connected with a viewpoint overlooking Radslav Bay and Vltava Bay. The loop thus combines a short cycling distance with an uphill section and two places to take in the landscape. For planning your day, you can consider the less-than-50-minute cycling time separately from stops at the Radslav Rest Area and the viewpoint. Anyone including both points should plan additional breaks alongside the ride.

Route to the Ferry Landing at Dolní Vltavice

Another option leads to the ferry landing at Dolní Vltavice. The route runs from Jestřábí via Radslav and Bližná and passes through unspoiled nature along the right bank of the Vltava. This makes it clear for planning purposes that Radslav can be part of both a loop route and a longer connection through the landscape by the water. The two routes described have different focuses: the Jestřábí Loop concentrates on a loop with views, while the route to Dolní Vltavice focuses on the connection between several places.

The Origins of Today’s Holiday Settlement

The Radslav holiday settlement was established after Lipno Reservoir was flooded, on the site of the former settlement of Ratschlag. This historical connection explains why the map in the chapel and the history of the present-day settlement play a special role in a visit. Two narrow roads lead to Radslav from Černá v Pošumaví, one via Bližná and one via Jestřábí. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore pay particular attention to whether you want to explore Radslav further as a destination because of its views, cycling or local history.
