Blizna – Cycling, Forest Trails and Lipno Ferries
Blizna brings together different ways to experience Bližná and the surrounding area: signposted cycle paths run along forest trails, around Blíženský les and along routes with ferry crossings on Lake Lipno. There is also the history of graphite mining at the Václav Shaft. If you would like to combine different day plans with your family, you will find both a short loop at a leisurely pace and a considerably longer tour with elevation gain here.
Cycle paths for short and longer tours
The “Klidová trasa z Horní Plané na Olšina” route is signposted and classified as easy. From Plánička, this route reaches Bližná via a forest trail. This makes it a clearly described option for anyone who would like to include an easy route in their plans.
The “Cyklookruh kolem Frymburku” reaches Bližná on the signposted cycle route 1022. On its section through Bližná, it runs around Blíženský les. The loop also uses two ferries on Lake Lipno; the crossings are particularly appealing for families with children. In the warmer months, cyclists also visit the Radslav viewpoint.
A compact option is the 8 km “Okruh Jestřábí” cycling loop, which passes through Bližná. A family can complete it at a leisurely pace in less than 50 minutes. For trained cyclists, as well as families with children who are used to longer tours, the “To Vítkův Hrádek by Ferry Across Lake Lipno” cycle route is described instead. It runs through Hůrka, Černá v Pošumaví and Bližná to Dolní Vltavice, is 38 km long and has 480 metres of elevation gain. The different route lengths help you assess the desired character of your trip and the right daily rhythm in advance.
Mountains, culture and the history of Bližná
The surrounding area also offers specific themes for further excursions away from the cycling routes. The mountains Vítkův Kámen, Bärenstein, Lindový vrch and Špićák lie near Bližná. Chlumany, an ancient site, is located in the wider regional area. The churches “Haslach Parish Church” and “Schiffler Chapel”, as well as the “Bühlerkreuz” place of worship, are also located there.
The mountain destinations Vítkův Kámen, Bärenstein, Lindový vrch and Špićák add a scenic accent; Chlumany, the three religious sites and the Václav Shaft expand the selection with ancient, religious and industrial history. This makes it possible to shape a stay differently when switching between experiencing nature, cultural discovery and a look at the area’s former extraction of raw materials. The surrounding area therefore offers specific themes for planning your days beyond the number of kilometres.
A particularly significant historical connection lies directly in Bližná: graphite was mined at the Václav Shaft from 1964 to 1998. This allows travel planning to be expanded not only through route length and landscape, but also through a specific chapter of local history.
