Měšice amid Castle, Nature and Trails

Měšice combines historical insights with experiences in nature and marked trails through the area around Tábor. The most prominent feature is Měšice Castle: the Baroque castle was created by rebuilding a Renaissance fortress dating from 1545. Anyone wishing to combine culture and activity can find both the castle and St. James’ Way and the cycling route in the village.

Měšice Castle from a Personal Perspective

The castle can be visited year-round from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. if an appointment has been arranged by telephone in advance. This option is intended for groups of at least five people. During guided tours, the owners show how they live and work in the castle today. For groups of five or more, the tour can be planned as a shared program item with a clearly defined time slot.

The Měšice International Festival is regularly held in May by the 350-year-old lime tree in front of the southern façade of Měšice Castle. For planning a day trip, the stage length of 28.6 km provides a specific point of reference; within Měšice, the route follows D and B toward Tábor railway station.

Cycling also has a specific connection here: the “Na Kozí Hrádek a Harrachovku” cycling route continues through Měšice to Kozí Hrádek. Depending on whether you want to combine a cultural visit with a signposted route or with a section of St. James’ Way, the location offers various thematic points of connection. The cycling route and St. James’ Way therefore have different focuses: one continues to Kozí Hrádek, while the other describes a stage to Tábor-Klokoty.

Lom Svatá Anna is a nature showcase garden created in a former quarry in Tábor-Měšice. The natural area comprises several biotopes and was created after the former quarry was cleaned and revitalized. The biotopes and the former quarry shape a type of landscape that differs from the mountains around Měšice. An excursion can therefore focus either on the revitalized quarry or on the mountains in the wider regional area.
