Jílovice – Church, Ponds and Cycling Route

Jílovice combines a pond landscape, early Gothic traces, regional traditions and a signposted cycling route to create a diverse destination in the Czech Republic. The village lies between ponds on the border between the Třeboň Basin and the Novohradské Mountains. The regular events also give the village its own cultural profile. The St. James church fair takes place regularly on the last Sunday in July. The local event tradition also includes a traditional Masopust carol, a begging and singing custom during the carnival season. Another destination for visitors interested in history is the private Veteran Muzeum Roděj, a collection of historic vehicles in Jílovice Nádraží. Some of the vehicles are more than 100 years old. The focus there is therefore not on the village’s sacred history, but on the development of historic vehicles.

The “Cestou dobrých vod na Borovansku” cycling loop is suitable for active days. It passes through Jílovice on both the outward and return journeys and is considered an easy, signposted route on paved and asphalt roads. In Jílovice, the route also offers the opportunity to have refreshments at a family brewery. This makes the village a specific stopping point within a cycling tour, without reducing the route to a single attraction.

The České Budějovice–České Velenice railway line runs approximately 3 km from Jílovice and has a stop at Jílovice nádraží. This transport connection complements the village’s cultural and landscape attractions.
