Rejta Between History, Water and Village Tradition

Rejta combines historical traces, paths and bodies of water with distinctive local traditions. Chapel and Historical Sites

The Nanebevstoupení Páně Chapel in Rejta was consecrated on 11 May 1899; its foundation stone bears the date 6 April 1896. In 2020, it was completely reconstructed and entered in the “small renewal” category of the Památka roku 2020 competition in South Bohemia. The chapel therefore brings together early architectural history and a documented renovation.

Marouškův mlýn is also one of the village’s historical points of reference. The mill has been documented in writing since 1532 and is considered probably the oldest known building in the area of present-day Rejta. The original equipment has been preserved in the hamr. Together, these places offer different approaches to history: from a religious building and a documented mill to the preserved equipment of a hamr.

Educational Trail, Ponds and Activities

The “Trhové Sviny – Pious and Sinful” educational trail connects Trhové Sviny with Rejta. Its stop No. 14, “Rejta,” is located in front of the cultural centre in Rejta; a 200 m detour is provided for this stop. This specific route information helps you incorporate a visit to the village into an exploration between Trhové Sviny and Rejta without treating the route as a separate circular trail.

Velký rybník in the Rejta district of Trhové Sviny has a natural swimming area and served as a filming location for the Czech film “Pojedeme k moři.” The Bosna pond is also known as “Obecňák” and has served as a fish-breeding pond since 2021; fishing is prohibited there. For activities on site, the SK Rejta grounds have an artificial-turf surface with quartz sand, as well as markings for nohejbal and “mezní.” This gives you various options for planning your day: the swimming area, the film connection and the sports ground appeal to different interests. At Bosna, the fish-breeding use and fishing ban clearly limit how the pond can be used.

Masopust as a Recurring Tradition

In Rejta, the Doudlebský masopust is celebrated as an annual carnival tradition on the seventh Sunday before Easter. One Masopust procession began in front of the Na tahu inn. During another procession, the route was arranged so that no house was left out. These details give the tradition a clear temporal and local framework.
