Jinočany Between Local History, Ponds and Hiking Trails

Jinočany combines local history, a water landscape and an extensive hiking trail. Between the chapel, wayside cross, ponds and historical traces, the village presents a varied picture. Those exploring Jinočany can view the village center, the bodies of water and the route of the trail as different focal points. A visit to the chapel and wayside cross offers a different experience from summer days at Mirešák Pond or exploring a long-distance hiking route. In this way, local history is combined with specific landscape and activity themes.

Chapel, Wayside Cross and Local History

In the village center, the Jinočanský kříž stands next to the chapel. The stone wayside cross is made of Lochkov marble and orthocere limestone. It dates from 1862 and was probably created by a local stonemason. It was moved from a busy crossroads to a quiet location beside the chapel. Its present location thus connects the village center with a testimony to local history.

The Jinočanská kaplička was built in 1903 primarily as a functional structure rather than a religious building. Above all, it was intended to serve as a fire station for the volunteer fire brigade founded the previous year, and was also built as a fire-brigade bell tower. From 2007 onward, it was once again used for weddings, welcoming new residents and other festive occasions. Its history therefore encompasses practical functions and later community celebrations.

The Škroby mine is also part of the village’s history; it was located southwest of Jinočany. The former site lies outside the village center and adds a connection to the southwestern surroundings to Jinočany’s history.

Ponds and Summer Activities

Mirešický Pond, also known as Malý rybník, serves as a multipurpose pond or reservoir. Fishing takes place at Mirešák Pond near Mirešice Farm. Swimming is also possible there in summer.

Hiking on the Vintířova Trail

The Vintířova Trail passes through Jinočany to the abandoned village of Krteň. It then continues along the renovated Krteňská cesta toward Stodůlky and Řepy. The new section of the Vintířova Trail is 136 kilometers long and can be divided into six stages. The stage structure helps break the long route into individual sections and plan the hike as a longer project.

The Břevnov Monastery is a spiritual point of reference. Saint Gunther is said to be buried there, and his symbolic tomb is also located there. This point of reference adds a religious aspect to the local history and landscape.

Getting to Jinočany

Jinočany can be reached by bus routes 309 and 310 from Zličín, as well as by route 352 from Luka. You can also get there by train from Smíchovské nádraží station toward Beroun.
