Discover Únějovice

Únějovice combines landscape landmarks with small, unusual cultural traces. The large Únějovický rybník pond forms the southern boundary of the village. Cultural heritage with surprising details

A distinctive detail can be found on the exterior façade of the barn at the southeastern corner of Únějovický dvůr: remnants of sgraffito plasterwork have been preserved there. Sgraffito plasterwork refers to a decorative treatment of plaster surfaces in which patterns are worked out of an upper layer. The façade thus preserves a decorative detail of the building stock. This feature makes the buildings a concrete point of reference for anyone who, when visiting the village, also pays attention to historic architecture and inherited details. Another trace leads to the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in Únějovice. The building dates from 1868. Every year in the second half of May, Únějovice holds a traditional pilgrimage in honour of Saint John of Nepomuk. Thus, alongside its architectural landmarks, the village also has a recurring religious custom. The Únějovický rybník pond is not only connected to Únějovice by name but also explicitly forms the southern boundary of the village. Approximately 600 m south of the pond stands Pastýřova hruška. The distance of approximately 600 m clearly places the tree in the southern surroundings of the pond. The tree is marked on tourist maps and has been protected since 1 October 1987. Its significance also extends into local tradition: according to this tradition, Pastýřova hruška is connected with the founding of Únějovice in 1379.
