Local history at the Muzeum Středních Brd

The Muzeum Středních Brd presents an exhibition on the local history of Strašice and its surroundings. Its chronological scope extends from the second half of the 18th century to the 1950s. Topics include ironworking, local studies, and social life. The exhibition gives the village a historical depth that goes beyond individual sights: it shows how Strašice and its surroundings developed over several periods.

Different opening hours apply to museum visits depending on the season. During the summer season, from 1 April to 30 September, the Muzeum Středních Brd is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00; it is closed on Mondays. During the winter season, from 1 October to 31 March, it is open on Wednesdays from 13:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00.

Another facet of regional history is presented by the Muzeum dopravy in Strašice, with its historic means of transport. This adds a topic to a museum visit that focuses not on local history but on the development of transport.

To Tři Trubky through the Brdy Mountains

The Dům přírody Brd is located near Tři Trubky in the Brdy Protected Landscape Area. Tři Trubky lies in the cadastral area of the municipality of Strašice. The interactive exhibition at the Dům přírody Brd presents the protected landscape area as an island of mountainous nature in the middle of Bohemia. For visitors who want to learn about the landscape not only while out exploring but also in an accessible format, it complements the paths and excursions around Strašice.

A two-kilometre hiking trail leads from the car park in Strašice along the Klabava River to the Tři Trubky hunting lodge. The clearly described starting point makes this route an excursion idea in its own right: it combines the river course with the destination at the hunting lodge without requiring a longer route through the Brdy Mountains. The Dům přírody Brd also offers guided walks and excursions for the general public, groups, and school programmes.

Cycling tours through the surrounding Brdy forests can also begin in Strašice. Those who prefer to explore the area actively and at a changing pace thus have another way to discover the landscape around the village, different from the route to Tři Trubky.

A church, medieval traces, and a Brdy symbol

The Kostel sv. Vavřince complex comprises the church, an enclosing wall with a gate, and a memorial cross. Kostel sv. Vavřince is a single-nave masonry church with preserved medieval architectural elements and details. There is also a wall painting dating from around 1400. Its present appearance was created through a Baroque renovation, meaning that medieval traces and a later Baroque character can both be seen in the building.

An unusual regional feature is the Brdská vločka. This is an unofficial symbol of the entire Brdy region carved into the rock. Together with the church, the museum, and the landscape experiences, it creates a diverse picture of Strašice: the village represents not only nature, but also local memory, historic forms, and signs of regional connectedness.
