Liblín – Castle History, Park and Landscape Along the Berounka

Liblín combines a distinctive castle history with the landscape of the Berounka Nature Park. The village is considered a settlement first mentioned in writing in 1180. This makes it a destination where historic buildings, a freely accessible park and a protected natural area stand closely alongside one another.

Discover the Castle Grounds and Their History

Liblín Castle was converted into a Baroque chateau in the 18th century. Later alterations gave it its present-day Neoclassical appearance. The building therefore reveals several stages of historical development rather than representing just a single era. The castle grounds also include an English landscape park and numerous Baroque sculptures.

The grounds also include the Baroque Church of Saint John of Nepomuk. Construction of the church began in 1751. A bridge connects the church with the castle building. This specific connection makes the church an independent part of the castle complex, rather than merely another historic building in the village.

The former castle park is home to a statue of Saint Margaret of Antioch, a Baroque work dating from 1758. Its date adds a preserved individual work to the castle’s history. The bridge over the Berounka in Liblín is also part of the village’s cultural heritage: it is designated a cultural monument.

Park and Natural Landscape Along the Berounka

The castle park is freely accessible to the public. On a walk, you can admire historic statues and experience the park as an independent part of a visit to Liblín. For families and other travelers with varied interests, this creates a clear distinction between simply viewing a castle building and experiencing a combination of architecture, sculpture and landscape.

Liblín is located in the Berounka Nature Park. Its protected landscape includes the deeply incised valley of the Berounka and its tributaries, rock outcrops, adjacent forest complexes and agricultural land. The village therefore represents not only cultural history, but also a varied landscape of river valleys, rocks, forests and open agricultural areas.

One of the less visible natural features is the site known as “Liblín – lihovar.” It is home to a regionally significant winter roost of the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis). This information does not describe an additional place to visit, but rather a special ecological significance within Liblín’s natural environment.

A Hike with a Specific Trail Condition

If you would like to combine a visit to Liblín with a hike, you should take into account the particular trail conditions on the “Berounka and Radnický Stream Valley” circular route. On this circular hike, the logs over the Radnický Stream cannot be crossed; the stream must be forded. This section is an integral part of the route information and distinguishes the trail from a hike with a continuously passable crossing.
