Příchovice: Castle Culture, Ticholovec and Family Discoveries

Příchovice combines cultural history with small discoveries in the landscape. A Baroque château, the 480 m-high Ticholovec hill, chapels and trails for children give the town different facets. If you would like to combine nature, history and special experiences on your trip, you will find several starting points here – from a walk to an evening at the theatre.

Castle History and Living Culture

Příchovice Château was built as a Baroque château in 1718–1719. It replaced a stone castle complex from the 14th century that was surrounded by a moat. Today, the château is used for cultural and social purposes. Classical concerts are held at the château, and theatre performances are organised annually in the château park.

The amateur theatre ensemble Buřina is also part of the local cultural scene. It revived theatre in Příchovice in 2011 and performs at the Příchovice Cultural Centre and in surrounding municipalities. In this way, the ensemble complements the events at the château with another form of theatre that is firmly connected with the town.

Ticholovec and Trails around Příchovice

Ticholovec is a 480 m-high hill southeast of Příchovice. At the beginning of the 18th century, it was a popular destination because of its spa facilities, statues and romantic setting. The “With St. Adalbert through the Přeštice Area” educational trail ends in Ticholovec Forest above Příchovice. The landscape and the historical memory of earlier excursions thus come together in this place.

From Přeštice railway station, you can reach Příchovice via a footpath of approximately 2 km. The Příchovický stream is also of interest for finding your way around the area: at the weir, you can descend to the stream, and above the bridge, 15 stone steps lead down to the stream bed.

Special Experiences for Children and at Christmas

On the “Trail of Czech Fairy Tales” in Příchovice, children can look for ten stones painted with fairy-tale motifs. The task turns the trail into a specific discovery and complements the historical sights with an experience in which children search for the stones themselves.

The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 2006. Its doors remain open from the beginning of Advent until Epiphany. A glazed door also allows visitors to view the nativity scene and the chapel interior at night when they are illuminated. On Christmas Eve, scouts from Příchovice also distribute the Bethlehem Light at the chapel.

The Chapel of St. Anne still marks the place where French soldiers found their final resting place. Together with the château, Ticholovec and the stream, it creates an excursion destination in which different historical and landscape impressions come together.
