Dvorec between Ironworks History and the World of Railways

Those who choose Dvorec as a travel destination will find an unusual combination of industrial history, railway tradition, bodies of water and educational trails. The historic ironworks stood on the border between Dvorce and Vrčeň along the Myslívský potok stream. Their buildings still stand today on the embankment of the Huťský rybník pond in the Železná Huť area.

The history of this place extends beyond iron production itself. After production ended in the 1880s, the buildings of the former ironworks were initially converted into an oil mill and, in the 1920s, into a mill. This makes it possible to trace, through a specific group of buildings, how their use changed over different periods.

The railway structures also preserve distinctive historical details. The former railway water station on the line to Dvorec was built at the end of the 19th century and has been largely preserved in its authentic form. Its hexagonal glass blocks are unusual. The former railway depot on the line to Dvorec retains its original, simple appearance in the Neo-Renaissance style.

Model Railway and Educational Trails

The historic railway and model railway Výtopna Nepomuk is located at Rožmitálská 63 in Dvorec, in the Plzeňský kraj region. It features a functioning TT-scale model railway layout. It covers 24.5 m², operates at a scale of 1:120 and has a track gauge of 12 mm. The precise dimensions make the layout interesting even for visitors who are interested not only in railways in general, but also in technical details and model building.

The layout complements the historic originals with a scale representation.

For an exploration on foot, the Helenka educational trail leads from the weir on the Úslava to the Včelařská naučná stezka. This educational trail comprises a total of ten stations. The two educational trails connect water, landscape and beekeeping with industrial and railway history. This complements the permanent historic sites with an activity in which the landscape itself becomes part of the subject.

Pond and Elevations in the Surrounding Area

The Huťský rybník covers 5.7 hectares and is up to five metres deep in some places. Its construction began in 1785 as a new water source for the ironworks. As a result, the pond is not only part of the landscape but also directly connected with the history of former iron production.

The Buzrakov mountain (Plánický hřeben) and Nad Moráskem mountain are located around Dvorec. The nearby area also includes Dálky Hill near Třebčice and Šibenice Hill near Nepomuk. The mountains and hills complement the water landscape and historic sites with an open landscape aspect.
