Discover Příšov: Village Chapel, Farmsteads and Volcanic Landscape

Příšov combines a partly preserved historic village character with a distinctive natural monument. If, when travelling, you want to discover not only individual sights but also the evolved structure of a place, Příšov offers several specific points of interest: the historic centre with its village chapel, agricultural farmsteads with older building fabric, artistically decorated façades and Příšovská homolka as evidence of the Earth’s geological history.

Historic Centre and Preserved Farmsteads

The historic centre of Příšov, with its village chapel, is considered important from a heritage perspective and deserves increased attention as well as comprehensive protection. The chapel itself has a simple bell turret at the apex of its pyramidal roof. It is precisely this restrained architectural solution that makes it a characteristic part of the village character. It does not stand in isolation but belongs to a historic settlement context that has been partly preserved in Příšov.

Příšov has partly preserved its historic settlement layout with original agricultural farmsteads. Many of the larger and smaller farmsteads contain building fabric dating predominantly from 1850 to 1930. Artistically decorated stucco façades have survived on many of these buildings. They predominantly reflect pseudo-historicist styles, especially the Neo-Renaissance. This gives the village a clear focus for appreciation: it is not just a single building but the combination of the layout, farmsteads and façade design that shapes Příšov’s historic character.

Among the smaller but illustrative historic details is a four-sided stone pillar with a severely damaged statue of Saint John of Nepomuk that is smaller than life-size. The monument dates from the late 18th century and stands beneath a horse chestnut tree on Road II/180 towards Ledce. Such details complement the larger farmsteads and the chapel with a religious monument from another era.

Příšovská homolka: Geological History beside Local History

The natural monument Příšovská homolka provides a distinctive feature of its own. It protects a Tertiary volcano that became dormant during the Diluvium. Thus, alongside its historic settlement character, Příšov also has a geological theme. Those who enjoy combining landscape and culture can therefore view the village from two perspectives: through the visible architectural history of the farmsteads and through the much older development of the volcano.

Local Traditions in the Recent Past

Events are also part of Příšov’s character. The lighting of the Christmas tree took place on 7 December 2024 and 6 December 2025. On 30 April 2026, the Příšov Volunteer Fire Brigade organised a traditional Maypole-raising ceremony in Olšiny. In addition, a traditional carnival procession through Příšov took place on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The dates show different seasonal customs and complement the architectural heritage with community-oriented occasions. As the dates have already passed, they should be understood as examples of local traditions rather than as a current events calendar.
