Mladý Smolivec: Trails, Churches and Landscapes

Mladý Smolivec is suitable for travelers who want to combine active days with culture and regional discoveries. The Formanská Trail between Starý Smolivec and Dožice is accessible for cycling, inline skating, running and walking; in winter, it can also be used with cross-country skis. This places a route at the center that combines various forms of exercise in different seasons.

Traveling Along Historic Routes

The Formanská Trail follows a route that served carters as an important country road in the 16th and 17th centuries. Today, visitors can use three rest areas along the trail, equipped with tables, benches, bicycle stands and waste bins.

The marked Cycling Route 2168 also offers a specific option for an active excursion: It runs from Míšov south toward Chloumek and is 19.3 km long in total. Those who prefer walking can consider the Všerubská Route of the Svatojakubská cesta. It passes through Mladý Smolivec and can be used by hikers traveling southwest from Prague.

Churches, Castle and Regional History

The cultural destinations are located in various places in the surrounding area and represent different historical periods. In Mladý Smolivec stands the Chapel of St. Lawrence, dating from 1887. In Budislavice is the early Gothic Church of St. Giles from the second half of the 13th century. Its Rococo high altar features a painting from 1859. In Dožice, the Renaissance Church of the Archangel Michael was built in the second half of the 16th century and extensively altered in the 19th century.

Another notable cultural site is the Baroque Starý Smolivec Chateau, dating from the mid-18th century. When exploring historic buildings, an earlier use is also part of the local history: The ground floor formerly contained a small chapel dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This chapel should explicitly be understood as a historical detail, not as a current offering.

Landscape Between Brdy and the Nature Park

When choosing the right place to stay, the landscape context matters alongside the routes. Pod Štědrým Nature Park extends southwest into the cadastral area of Mladý Smolivec. The Brdy Protected Landscape Area extends partly into the northern tip of the cadastral area. This makes it possible to discover the area both through specific cycling routes and walking trails and through its protected landscapes.

Festivals and Regional Specialties

Local events add culinary and community experiences to the picture. The Budislavické Rybí slavnosti took place in 2026 in Budislavice for the eighth time. Offerings included smoked carp, trout, African catfish, carp schnitzel, grilled mackerel, carp fries, fish tartare, salad, gobies and fish soup. At BUDIFEST 2026, beer and wine were available, as well as smoked products straight from the smokehouse, sausages, grilled Hermelín cheese and fries.

Walking is also connected with regional traditions. The traditional Pochod z obce do obce walk took place in December 2025 for the 14th time. The 2025 Pochod z obce do obce began in Budislavice and headed toward Mladý Smolivec. Together with the historic churches, protected landscapes and marked trails, this creates a destination where you can choose to focus on culture, activity or local events, depending on your interests.
