Ves Touškov

Ves Touškov is a Czech village whose character is shaped particularly by its preserved rural architecture and distinctive evidence of ecclesiastical history. In November 1995, the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Culture designated Ves Touškov as a heritage protection zone of folk architecture. This means that the focus is not only on a single building, but also on the traditional villagescape as a cultural starting point for exploring the village.

The Village Square and Rural Architecture

A central point of reference is the village square in Ves Touškov. It is lined with a number of preserved, valuable traditional rural houses. The buildings give the square its distinctive historical character and make it a concrete starting point for appreciating the local folk architecture. This setting is complemented by the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It stands in a prominent position on Ves Touškov’s unusually large village square and is a work of local significance.

The monument is located next to St. Margaret’s Church in the central part of Ves Touškov. Several of the documented cultural features are therefore concentrated within a manageable area of the village: the traditional buildings around the village square, the Baroque statue, and the church together form the most striking historical points of reference in the village. St. Margaret’s Church

St. Margaret’s Church has Gothic origins. In 1846, it was expanded by extending the nave and adding a gallery and a tower. Its architectural history thus combines an older Gothic origin with a later transformation of the church building. The furnishings also include a three-part Rococo organ from the early 19th century.

During restoration, an original pointed-arch Gothic portal entrance was discovered in the wall of the nave. The portal entrance belongs to the Gothic building phase of the church. Those interested in architecture will therefore find at St. Margaret’s not just a date, but several distinct layers of development—from its Gothic origins through the 1846 extension to the Rococo organ.

Ves Touškov as a Cycling Route Destination

The long-distance cycling route “Dálková cyklotrasa” includes Ves Touškov. The route represents a different scale from the locally concentrated cultural features around the village square and church.
