Sirá – Nature, History and Trails in the Brdy Landscape

Sirá lies at the northeastern foot of Sirská hora in the wooded Brdy landscape. The village combines a compact center with forest, fields, historical traces and several trails. Village Square, Local History and Special Details

Sirá’s village square is defined by a natural pond with a stone bus shelter. You can park at the pond on the village square, making this area a practical point of reference for exploring the village. The chapel on the village square is designated as a historically significant building. In addition, Sirá’s medieval and modern historic center is registered as a Category I.20 archaeological area.

The history of the village dates back at least to 1462: Sirá is first mentioned in an entry in the so-called “Desky dvorské.” Another historical sign can be found at the site where Václav Holub was found, where a memorial now stands. These points give the village square and the historic center a cultural dimension without requiring you to plan your days exclusively around sightseeing.

Forests, Fields and Protected Plants

The municipality of Sirá includes forests, fields and Cekovský rybník. A continuous forest complex stretches around Sirská hora, which rises 592 m above sea level. The municipality therefore encompasses a variety of landscapes: open areas, bodies of water and extensive woodland.

Individual natural features have also been documented. Hůrka is registered in Sirá as a significant landscape feature and contains old fruit trees. In the eastern part of the municipality, near Cekovský rybník, the particularly protected plant species European globeflower (Trollius altissimus) grows.

Hiking and Cycling around Sirská hora

There are various ways to experience Sirá and its surroundings. The Radeč cycling tour follows a forest track with a gentle ascent around Sirská hora. A circular hike from Lhota pod Radčem follows blue-marked trails to Sirá and on to the village square. This hike therefore combines access via marked trails with the village center.

In addition, a marked hiking trail runs through the municipality of Sirá and connects Sirská hora with Bukov mountain. When planning your day, you can therefore choose between the cycling tour on the forest track, the circular hike along blue-marked trails, and the marked hiking trail between Sirská hora and Bukov mountain. The trails make the village particularly appealing to travelers who want to combine culture and nature during their stay.

Getting There and Finding Your Way Around

From the D5 motorway between Prague and Pilsen, take exit 50 at Mýto. Then drive through Mýto on road 605 in the direction of Prague and turn left after approximately 2 km. On site, the village square with its natural pond, stone bus shelter and parking area provides a clear point of reference. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether the historic center or the trails and landscapes described above should be the focus of your trip planning.
