Koryta on the Střela

History and distinctive local features

Koryta was founded in 1175, when Prince Soběslav II donated the village, together with Obora and Babina, to Plasy Monastery. A later event had a particularly strong impact on the village’s appearance: on June 6, 1881, a major fire largely destroyed Koryta. The village’s farmsteads were subsequently rebuilt on the foundations of the earlier buildings. This sequence of medieval foundation, profound disruption and reconstruction gives the village’s history an unusually clear chronological structure.

Among the visible memorial sites is the monument to those who fell in the First World War, which was erected by the local Tyl theater association of the time. Hradiště near Koryta is also noteworthy: it is protected as a cultural monument. Northeast of the village, on the road toward Dolní Hradiště, lies the Koryta cemetery. It is well maintained and still in use. A chapel built in 1905 also stands on the southeast side of the village square. Together, these sites provide several different points of interest for a tour through Koryta’s history and present-day appearance.

Cycling, hiking and getting there

The Baroko III cycling route passes through Koryta. In addition, a yellow-marked hiking trail runs through the village. This means that two clearly designated routes are directly connected with Koryta: one for exploring by bicycle and one for hiking. Travelers with different interests can incorporate these options into their daily plans without losing sight of the village center as their main point of reference.

Public transportation is an important factor when choosing accommodation and planning your journey, with a clear difference between weekdays and weekends. Public bus services from Koryta operate only on weekdays; there is no public transportation connection to Koryta at weekends. This limitation should be taken into account in personal travel planning, especially if arrival or onward travel by public transport is planned.
