Kaceřov – Castle, Berounka and Canoe Route

Kaceřov brings together Renaissance culture, a protected river landscape and a clearly described canoe route within a compact thematic area. This creates a destination where you can combine a cultural visit with observing nature and a trip on the Berounka. Particularly interesting is the choice between the castle as the historical focal point, the educational trail through the river landscape and the Nadryby–Liblín canoe route.

Kaceřov Castle as a cultural centre

The castle in Kaceřov is a significant example of a Renaissance manor house in the Central European context. Florián Gryspek z Gryspachu had it built between 1540 and 1552. Its construction period places the castle within Renaissance history; at the same time, as a manor house it clearly differs from the natural area along the Berounka.

Architecture, the Renaissance and the history of a manor house shape Kaceřov’s cultural character. The castle thus forms a clear cultural counterpart to the deeply incised river valley that defines Berounka Nature Park.

The Berounka landscape and educational trail

The natural side of the area is defined by Berounka Nature Park. It protects the preserved landscape character of the deeply incised valley of the Berounka and its tributaries. The focus is therefore not merely on a single viewpoint, but on a coherent landscape area whose defining feature is the deeply incised river valley.

A specific way to explore this area in greater depth is provided by the Kaňonem Horní Berounky educational trail. It has nine stations, seven large information panels with photographs and three small information panels with photographs. This equipment makes the trail an interpretive way of accessing the landscape: the stations and panels place the surroundings in a visual and thematic context rather than presenting them merely as a backdrop.

The mission of Berounka Nature Park also includes informing and educating the public about nature conservation and the historical development of the landscape. Nature and culture are therefore brought together here from the same visitor perspective. You can view the landscape area both as a protected valley and as an area with its own historical development.

By canoe from Nadryby to Liblín

Anyone wishing to combine Kaceřov with time on the water will find a precisely described route in the Nadryby–Liblín canoe route. It is 15 km long, takes four to five hours and includes four weirs.

The route passes through the navigable Kaceřovský mlýn and by Kaceřov Castle. It thus combines the immediate experience of a river route with views of Kaceřov Castle.

Kaceřov therefore remains more than a single sightseeing spot as a destination: the castle, protected river valley, educational trail and canoe route offer different ways of viewing the area and its surroundings.
