History and Landmarks of Ledce

The history of the village goes back a long way. Ledce was first mentioned in documents from 1180 to 1182. Its more recent economic history includes kaolin mining: kaolin was mined in Ledce until 1968 and processed there until 1975. These two dates give the village a historical depth that extends beyond its visible buildings.

One of Ledce’s landmarks is the Romanesque Church of St. James. Its present appearance is the result of Gothic and Baroque alterations. The building has a rectangular nave, a narrower chancel, a square western tower, a sacristy and a chapel. The church therefore does not reflect just one architectural period; its architecture also preserves traces of various phases of alteration. A Baroque rectory dating from around 1760 is another of the village’s landmarks.

Dubský Mill below Ledce

Dubský Mill forms a separate chapter in the history of the village. The mill is also known as Dolní ledecký mlýn. It is located below Ledce at the confluence of the Třemošenka and Bělský streams. The mill was probably built in the 14th century. An important detail for understanding this historic site is that the surviving buildings have no interior furnishings today.

Farmapark and Krkavec Lookout Tower

Another reason to visit is Farmapark u Toma. During opening hours, you can visit it spontaneously without making a reservation in advance. This distinguishes the attraction from destinations where an appointment must be arranged beforehand and leaves room for flexible day planning.

For outdoor activities, Krkavec Lookout Tower offers another specific point of interest. The stone tower is 18 metres high and was opened in 1901. It can be reached on foot and by bicycle. Three marked hiking trails, in red, blue and green, lead to its summit. This provides several designated ways to approach the lookout tower without requiring a particular route.
