Honezovice: Small Structures, Great Local History

Honezovice combines remarkable rural architecture with tangible traces of earlier settlement and two documented cycle route connections. This creates a destination with different avenues of discovery for families and other travellers who wish to combine culture and activity: historical architectural forms can be explored just as readily as routes through the area and evidence dating from the 10th and 11th centuries.

Chapels and Rural Architecture

One particularly striking structure is the Chapel of Saint Barbara. It is considered a structurally unique and valuable small religious building. Its hexagonal half-timbered construction is defined by a shingle roof, a lantern and an onion dome. An inscription above the entrance dates the chapel to 1715. It therefore has not only a distinctive form but also a clearly documented historical date.

In the settlement of Hradišťany, which belongs to Honezovice, there is a hexagonal Chapel of the Virgin Mary, probably built in the first half of the 19th century. A large house, No. 18, with a historicist façade and an adjoining gateway has also been preserved there. Both examples illustrate different chapters of the region’s architectural history, without requiring you to limit yourself to a single attraction.

In Honezovice, the large farmstead No. 10 holds a prominent position among the Neoclassical farmsteads. An almost completely preserved agricultural farm complex also includes a residential building with an interesting floor plan and a richly decorated gable. The rear farm building of this complex combines the functions of a stable, dovecote and barn. East of Honezovice village square, a small log cabin stands by the road; it is considered one of the last of its kind in the surrounding area.

Cycle Routes and Traces of the Past

If you would like to explore Honezovice by bicycle, two cycle route connections are relevant. Cycle Route No. 306 runs through the Honezovice area and continues to Kladruby and Teplá Monastery. Cycle Route No. 2270 crosses the cadastral territory of Honezovice. When planning a cycling-focused stay, you can therefore compare different route options without losing sight of the cultural and historical destinations.

In a forest about 1.5 km beyond the settlement of Hradišťany are the remains of a Slavic hillfort dating from the 10th to 11th century. The site covers an area of approximately 2.3 hectares. About 200 m southwest of the hillfort remains, a burial mound field with twelve mounds was discovered. The hillfort and the burial mound field complement the preserved chapels and farmsteads with evidence of early settlement.

Further Characteristic Impressions

In the area around Honezovice, the surrounding coniferous forests are known among mushroom pickers as particularly productive. A specific event that has already taken place also adds to the local picture: pilgrimage pump-track races were held in Honezovice on 6 May 2026.
