Chrást – Nature Trail, Culture and Cycling Tours
Chrást between the Nature Trail and the Berounka Landscape
Chrást is a place for days when nature observation, history and cycling come together in different ways. At the heart of the area is the Chrást nature trail, with a natural-history branch and a historical branch, as well as nine information boards. The trail can be completed by bicycle or with a stroller. This provides a practical way to get to know the area's distinctive features at a leisurely or more active pace.
The nature trail includes the Chapel of Our Lady, an originally Baroque monument. It stands opposite the school next to a bus stop. The nature trail also leads to a former fortified site. The site's historical status is part of the history of the trail, as is the restoration of the historic path from Chrást to Závrtek, carried out by the municipality in 2007. The two branches combine nature observation with local history and give the trail different thematic focuses. This makes it possible to experience the nature trail both through its landscape and through Chrást's historical traces.
History at Skupovna and the Railway Bridge
Another cultural site is Skupovna, a modernist villa on the outskirts of Chrást in the direction of Zábělský les. Josef Skupa and his wife bought Skupovna in 1939 as a summer residence. During the Second World War, Josef Skupa and his wife moved permanently to Skupovna with their puppets. The villa thus combines its modernist form with a personal chapter in the history of the famous puppeteer.
The railway bridge Velký most “Velkáč” on the Chrást–Radnice line is part of the area's historic infrastructure. It was built in 1893. Its name, the railway line and the year of construction give this structure its own place in local history, while the chapel, the former fortified site and Skupovna showcase different facets of Chrást's cultural heritage.
Cycling in the Wider Area
The landscape beyond the town also offers additional destinations for trip planning. In the wider area around Chrást, the Berounka Nature Park, with several natural monuments, surrounds the winding canyon of the Berounka River between the Pilsen district of Doubravka and Chrást. The popular Plzeň–Chrást railway cycling trail runs through the local urban forests. For a wider selection of excursion destinations, the Chrástecký pas, with 26 tourist destinations, is also available.
The destinations included in the Chrástecký pas are located between 3 and 39 km away. The more distant excursions are recommended as full-day cycling tours. This range helps distinguish shorter trips from longer days of cycling. When planning your day, it is therefore important to decide whether the focus should be on a single destination or a full-day cycling tour. Distance thus becomes a practical measure for short excursions and longer cycling days. When choosing accommodation in Chrást, the desired focus of your stay may therefore play a role: local culture and the nature trail, or longer cycling tours in the surrounding area.
For further trip planning, you can also consider Dýšina, Pilsen, Štěnovický Borek, Lhůta, Radčice, Tymákov, Mokrouše and Letkov.
