Sklené combines a long local history with notable architectural heritage and two named cycling connections. The village is located about 7 kilometres southeast of Svitavy at an altitude of 510 metres. If you would like to combine a trip with cultural discoveries and a cycling tour, Sklené offers several specific points of interest. When choosing your accommodation, you can consider whether the historical details in the village or continuing along a cycle route is more important to you.

Historical Traces in Sklené

The first documented mention of Sklené dates from 1317. At that time, the village was mentioned as part of the episcopal fiefs in the Svitavy Province. This early reference provides a clear chronological starting point for the village’s history, without requiring you to limit yourself to a single attraction.

Several historical elements come together in the church cemetery. At the corner of the cemetery stands a Baroque mortuary chapel dating from 1739. The ensemble also includes a Baroque gate. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul acquired its present Art Nouveau appearance during an extension and renovation carried out between 1912 and 1914. Those wishing to compare different periods will therefore find both Baroque architectural heritage and a more recent ecclesiastical character here. The ensemble thus combines Baroque details with the church’s more recent appearance.

Chapel and Villagescape

Another historical trace leads to the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows. The Baroque chapel was probably built sometime in the first half of the 18th century. Today, only its perimeter walls remain. The walls stand beneath a lime tree about 1 kilometre south of the church, beside a field path.

The rest of the villagescape also contributes to Sklené’s distinctive atmosphere: closed agricultural farmsteads in the Empire style have been preserved. Together with the church, the church cemetery and the smaller sacred structures, they create an image in which the local history can be read not only in a single building but in various forms. The “U Havlů” yew tree was declared a natural monument on 24 June 1998, adding an independent natural dimension to these historical themes.

Cycling as a Second Travel Perspective

Sklené can also be incorporated into your travel plans through designated cycling connections. Cycle route 4024 runs through the village. Cycle route 4064 connects Sklené with Mariánský obraz. If you do not want to focus your stay exclusively on architectural history, you can use these two routes as different reference points for your planning. Accommodation in Sklené is therefore particularly suitable for a travel concept in which discovering the village and cycling stand side by side, without this implying any particular route length, difficulty or riding time.

Other Places to Include in Your Search

To compare other local pages, you can also look at Bělá U Jevíčka, Květná, Vysoká U Jevíčka, Javorník, Jarošov, Sedliště, Vítějeves and Staré Město.

Sklené is therefore a destination for travellers who want to combine historical local details, sacred architectural heritage and cycling connections in a peaceful travel plan. This keeps the decision closely aligned with the experiences you actually want to pursue during your stay.
