Květná: Forest Nature Trail, Cheese and Farmhouses
Accommodation in Květná
The Lesní škola Květná forest nature trail, tastings at Sýrárna and characteristic farmhouses reveal different sides of Květná. Seasonal wildlife observations and original bells dating from 1416 round out the experience. This gives you several different focuses for planning your trip: nature, regional cheese-making and architectural heritage.
Forest nature trail: trees and seasons
The Lesní škola Květná nature trail is about 300 metres long. Six information boards feature illustrations and short descriptions of twelve native forest tree species from the region. The walk therefore draws attention to specific species and how they are presented, rather than simply providing a route.
The nature observations you can make also change with the seasons. In spring, you can study herbs and grasses and watch birds; in autumn, you can collect leaves and fruit. If these kinds of observations matter to you, the seasons differ considerably: spring focuses on herbs, grasses and birds, while autumn is about leaves and fruit.
Getting around on foot, by bike and near the railway line
The paved section of the nature trail and the forest path also serve as a local cycle route; pedestrians have priority. If you are cycling, bear in mind that the route is shared and that pedestrians have right of way. The nature trail is 100 metres from Květná railway station on line No. 261 between Svitavy and Žďárec u Skutče. Check the current timetable for specific train travel plans.
A Czech radio feature from 2007 places Květná on the “Trstenicko-hrutovská stezka” route between Polička and Svitavy. If you plan to include this route in a specific trip, check its current course first. This keeps the reported route connection separate from the details of your current plans.
Cheese, farmhouses and village life
Cheese and other products are available to taste at Sýrárna Květná. The cheese dairy makes and sells fresh, matured, smoked, steamed and affinaged cheeses from cow’s and goat’s milk. A tasting therefore gives you a look at more than just one variety: the different production methods offer a tangible impression of the range of cheeses made locally.
A Czech radio feature from 2007 described characteristic German farmhouses in Květná near a stream. It noted that the unrendered marlstone masonry and decorative window surrounds—ornamented frames around the windows—had largely been preserved. The contrast between the exposed masonry and the window details makes the described architectural style especially tangible. Original bells dating from 1416 are also still in Květná’s church tower.
A 2025 community newsletter lists the traditional pilgrimage of Saint Lawrence, summer cinema screenings and family events as part of village life. If you would like to plan your stay around an event, check the specific dates and programmes for your travel year.
