Jarošov – Nature, Views and Historical Traces

Jarošov brings together protected landscapes, distinctive rock formations, scenic views and historical traces within a compact thematic area. The village lies on the edge of the Toulovcovy Maštale Nature Reserve; at the same time, the Maštale Nature Reserve also includes the cadastral area of Jarošov u Litomyšle. This makes Jarošov an interesting base for a stay if you would like to combine experiences in nature with cultural history.

Between Forest, Protected Landscape and Rock Formations

West of Jarošov lies the Cikánka rock formation, surrounded mostly by pine forests. One clearly described hiking option is the Vranice–Toulovcovy Maštale–Džberka–Vranice circular route. It starts and ends in Vranice; the settlement lies in the western part of Jarošov's cadastral area. If you prefer an established circular route, the Maštalská stezka offers another option: the trail is 30.5 km long and leads through Toulovcovy Maštale, Vranice and Nová Ves u Jarošova.

Another focus for an excursion is the Toulovcova rozhledna on Jarošovský kopec. The lookout tower stands at an elevation of 539 m between Jarošov u Litomyšle and Budislav in the Svitavy District. It is 15 metres high, has two viewing platforms and can be reached via 60 steps. In good visibility, the view extends towards the surroundings of Pardubice and Hradec Králové, as well as the northern mountain belt along the Czech border. This allows you to combine a hike or excursion with a scenic viewpoint experience, without viewing the landscape only from the trail.

Historical Traces in the Village

The village's history is also visible in several places. At “Západní okraj obce” there is a medieval, now-vanished castle site with preserved fortification remains. On the western edge of Jarošov, the earthworks of a former fortress have also been preserved. Both sites point to the historical development of the settlement area, but they highlight different aspects: the castle site preserves medieval fortification remains, while the earthworks are specifically classified as the remains of a former fortress.
