Vítějeves: Church, Nature Park and Cycle Route 104/I
Vítějeves combines an impressive cultural history with a landscape shaped by the Údolí Křetínky Nature Park. This gives you different ways to experience a stay: you can discover a church with medieval traces, explore protected landscapes or plan a challenging cycling tour through several towns. This combination is also relevant when choosing your accommodation, as you can weigh up cultural experiences, nature activities and active days outdoors.
A Church with Several Historical Layers
One of Vítějeves's most important cultural features is the Church of Saint Catherine. It is originally Gothic and dates from the 14th century. Its history can be read particularly well in the preserved architectural elements and later modifications, so a visit offers more than a single historical date.
Rare 14th-century frescoes have been preserved in the church's presbytery. These medieval wall paintings give the interior a distinctive historical dimension and make the church a worthwhile destination for anyone who wants to discover lesser-known examples of religious art while travelling through the Czech Republic.
At the same time, the building displays a clearly more recent architectural layer: around 1912, the church was remodelled into its present pseudo-Gothic form. Originally Gothic fabric, rare frescoes and the later pseudo-Gothic form thus stand side by side in a single building.
Protected Landscape in the Údolí Křetínky
The Údolí Křetínky Nature Park lies within the cadastral territory of Vítějeves and extends partly across this area. It was established in 1996 to protect the character of the landscape, with its significant aesthetic and natural values, and covers 5,570 ha. The nature park is therefore not a single viewpoint, but a large-scale landscape setting for exploring the surrounding area.
What is protected is a preserved, diverse mosaic of fields, meadow and forest communities, as well as human settlements. It is precisely this combination of different landscape elements that shapes the character of the nature park. The area around Vítějeves also offers interesting routes for summer and winter tourism. Depending on your preferred pace of travel, you can therefore focus your stay more on exploring the landscape or on an active tour.
A Cycle Tour with a Clearly Defined Route Character
For cyclists, Route No. 104/I runs from Městečko Trnávka via Křenov and Brněnec to Svojanov Castle. The route has a junction in Vítějeves. The town is thus part of a longer connection linking several places with a cultural destination.
Cycle Route No. 104/I is classified as a moderately difficult to challenging road route for racing bikes and trekking bikes. This classification is more important for your planning than a general description of it as an excursion route: it allows you to better assess whether the route suits your preferred way of cycling. If you are travelling with different age groups, you can treat the cycling tour as a separate active day of travel and devote the remaining time to cultural or landscape experiences.
Practical Information on Site
Guests may use the tennis courts in Vítějeves with admission paid in advance. Tennis therefore adds to the documented options for an active stay, without requiring you to devote the entire day to a longer cycling route.
You can also obtain additional information on weekdays at the Vítějeves municipal office. Postcards of the municipality and a tourist map of the Údolí Křetínky Nature Park are sold there. The map can help you include the protected landscape as a separate focus in your further excursion planning.
