Březová nad Svitavou lies on the historic Bohemian-Moravian border. The Svitava River divides the town into a Bohemian and a Moravian part. This geographical contrast is one of the destination’s distinctive features: the character of the destination is shaped by its landscape, local history, and industrial heritage. The cadastral area is also characterized by a significant and productive groundwater source area.

Industrial History and Baroque Traces

An unusual testament to regional development is the “První březovský vodovod”. This technical monument was built for Brno between 1911 and 1913 and remains operational to this day. The construction dates place the facility in the early 20th century; its continuing function connects this historical period of origin with the present day. Thus, Březová nad Svitavou is home not only to a historic name but also to a technical facility that continues to exist and remains central to the town’s history.

Another side of the town is represented by the parish church “Kostel sv. Bartolomeje”. It was built in the 13th century and underwent its final Baroque remodeling in 1725. Several centuries lie between its medieval origins and its Baroque remodeling, all coming together in the same building. Those interested in older architectural history and later stylistic periods will find two clearly identifiable historical layers in one church building. Local working history is also part of the town’s story: milling was traditionally widespread in Březová nad Svitavou and produced “březovská mouka”. Březovská mouka adds a specific product of local tradition to the town’s artisanal heritage.

Along the Educational Trail Through the Svitava Valley

For an active excursion, the “Naučná stezka údolím řeky Svitavy” provides a clearly defined route. The local circular trail is approximately 8 km long and has 13 information panels. They cover nature, the landscape, and the history of human settlement. The route runs mainly along unpaved field and forest paths, giving it a character distinctly different from a paved city sightseeing tour.

The “Naučná stezka údolím řeky Svitavy” begins behind the Dlouhá railway stop. It also includes the “Dobře ukrytá rozhledna Járy Cimrmana”. The observation tower is 20 m high, and its viewing platform is 15 m above the surrounding terrain. This allows information about the valley, observations of nature, and a clearly emphasized viewpoint to be combined along the same marked route without conflating the individual stops.

Avenues with Regional Connections

A quieter discovery is the “Ovocná alej”. The “Ovocná alej” is a peaceful path lined with original tree varieties as well as the first cultivated, resilient varieties. In addition, the town of Březová nad Svitavou carried out the “Jabloňová alej” project in 2006; 140 trees were planted as part of the avenue.
