Bohuňovice: History, Landscape and Discoveries in the Czech Republic

Bohuňovice combines a long local history with a landscape where the stream, pond, hills and cycle path offer a variety of discoveries. Historical Traces in Bohuňovice

The first written mention of Bohuňovice dates back to the late 12th century; at that time, the place was called Bogunouice. In the 12th century, Bohuňovice belonged to Litomyšl Monastery before becoming the property of the Diocese of Litomyšl in 1347. Bohuňovice is considered one of the oldest villages in the region. A special testimony to its more recent history can be found in the local cemetery: it contains a common grave of two Soviet prisoners who were killed during a death march in February 1945. The history of the village thus spans medieval property relations and the common grave dating from 1945.

The Church of Saint Procopius

The Church of Saint Procopius was built in 1724 and renovated in 1818. Its furnishings are in the Neo-Gothic style and include 19th-century paintings. Services are held in the church for pilgrimages and the church consecration festival. The building therefore represents not only the architectural history of the village but also a religious tradition that has been handed down to the present day. The years mark two stages of construction, while the style and paintings draw attention to the interior furnishings.

Stream, Pond and Views

The Končinský Stream is home to numerous less common animal and plant species associated with wetlands and damp meadows. Bohuňovice is also located near Velkonetřebský Pond. Bouzovka Hill offers a different landscape impression: from there, views extend into the Loučná Valley and towards Vysoké Mýto. This allows you to distinguish between a nature-focused destination by the stream, a pond in the surrounding area and a viewpoint, without losing sight of the local history.

Cycle Path and Spring in the Surrounding Area

Cycle Path 4231 runs from Sloupnice via Netřeby and Bohuňovice to Horky and is 7.5 kilometres long. At 7.5 kilometres, the cycle path forms a clearly defined section within this route; the four place names mark its course. The Studánka ve Švábenicích spring is also useful for orientation. It has remained unchanged for several decades, is easily accessible and provides drinking water. The spring is located about five metres from a third-class road between Cerekvice nad Loučnou and Bohuňovice.
