Rudná in the Czech Republic

Rudná shows its character especially where trails and local history meet. A marked red hiking trail runs through the village, while Horní Rudná and Dolní Rudná preserve their own historical traces. There is also a playground on the edge of the village, a football sports complex, and special points of interest along the Chrastovský potok. Hiking on two different routes

A marked red hiking trail runs through Rudná from Březová nad Svitavou railway station via Rudná to Hřebeč. The route is 19.14 km long and moderately difficult.

The long-distance Českomoravská stezka offers a different perspective. It runs over the elevated Hřebečovský hřbet to Rudná, then descends from there into the Svitava Valley. This provides two different forms of hiking: a marked 19.14 km route with Rudná as a stop along the way, and a long-distance trail connecting the village with the ridge and the subsequent descent into the valley. Compared with the red hiking trail, this option combines the ridge and the descent into the valley in a long-distance hike with changing elevations.

Local history between names and memorial markers

The name itself is also part of the village’s history. The oldest surviving name, Rudnás, Ruden, is derived from “rudka,” meaning red clay soil. Horní Rudná is first mentioned in a Latin document dated January 17, 1365, which was entered into the Moravian land registers in Brno. Those interested in specific historical traces can also find a historic fire station in Dolní Rudná. It was built in 1925 and is one of the sights of the municipality of Rudná.

There is a cross by the Chapel of Saint John and Saint Paul in Rudná. According to tradition, the chapel in Dolní Rudná is dedicated to Saint John and Saint Paul; seven 19th-century memorial crosses there bear the names of their benefactors.

Play, sports, and water by the Chrastovský potok

On the edge of Rudná, in the direction of the source of the Chrastovský potok, there is a multifunctional children’s playground in a park-like area with benches. In summer, the football sports complex was used mainly for young people’s sporting activities; children’s days were held there, and football and volleyball were played.

There is also a fire-fighting reservoir along the Chrastovský potok, which is used as an ice-skating rink and an outdoor swimming pool.
