Těchonín: Culture, Landscape and Bouda Fortress

Těchonín between the River and the Viewpoint

Těchonín is a destination where landscape, local history and marked trails come together in different ways. The Tichá Orlice flows from Celné through the lower part of Těchonín and continues towards Sobkovice. The unforested Stanovnický Hill offers views of the surrounding landscape. Around Těchonín, the preserved natural environment includes extensive forests and scenic landscapes. Landscape, History and Activity

When you have several interests, it helps to distinguish between the different types of visit: local history is reflected in buildings and memorial sites, the landscape in viewpoints and the course of the river, and activity in marked trails. In winter, well-maintained cross-country ski tracks provide an additional seasonal option. This allows you to choose the character of your stay without mixing the individual themes.

Church, Memorial Sites and Celné

The Church of Saint Margaret in Těchonín was built in 1704 on the site of an earlier wooden church. The church contains an altarpiece created in 1862 by the painter Josef Vorlíček, depicting Saint Margaret killing a dragon. A monument beside the cemetery in Těchonín commemorates 104 men and women of Greek or Macedonian origin buried there. A visit thus combines architectural history, a striking pictorial motif and a specific memorial site.

In the village of Celné, part of Těchonín, the Celné Cross bears the year 1790. The Celné Chapel was built there in 1825; it has an onion-shaped dome with a lantern for the bell and is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. The revived tradition of the Těchonín Shrovetide procession has existed since 2001.

Bouda Fortress and Marked Trails

Bouda Artillery Fortress has been listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1995. It is located in a wooded mountain massif above Těchonín, Lichkov and Dolní Boříkovice. The fortress contains a protected winter roost for nine species of bats. Guided tours of the artillery fortress include exhibitions on the army, national defence and Czechoslovak fortifications. This destination therefore brings together military history and a protected habitat.

The connection to this destination is described via a specific hiking route: Bouda Artillery Fortress can be reached from Těchonín railway station along a green-marked hiking trail; the route is 6.5 km long. In addition, a blue-marked hiking route leads from Těchonín through the Čerňovice Valley to Suchý vrch. In winter, well-maintained cross-country ski tracks in Těchonín can be used for trips into the surrounding area. You can therefore choose between a cultural destination, a marked route and a winter activity.
