Hrušová – Church, Loučná and Cycling Route

Hrušová reveals its character within a compact area: the Church of the Most Holy Trinity stands at the centre, while the Loučná flows through the eastern part of the village. In addition, the “Z Chocně do Pekla” cycling route offers a concrete opportunity to experience the landscape actively. Church and village square as a cultural centre

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity is located in the middle of Hrušová’s large village square. Its history contains an unusual detail: it was financed by Václav Říha after he won the lottery. This makes the church notable not only because of its location, but also because of its history.

Architecturally, the Church of the Most Holy Trinity is considered an interesting example of Neoclassical architecture in the region. A walk through Hrušová therefore has a specific cultural focus that remains closely connected to the village’s character without major changes in theme. In addition to Hrušová’s Trinity Chapel, there is also the Kalvárie stone cross. It dates from 1839 and adds a clearly dated historical testimony to the impression of this area.

A moderately difficult cycling route along the Loučná

The “Z Chocně do Pekla” route is 35 km long and classified as moderately difficult. It passes through Hrušová and runs between Vysoké Mýto and Pekla. Along the way, it follows the Loučná upstream before reaching Hrušová.

The route provides a clear distinction when choosing between a more cultural stay and a more active day. You can combine Hrušová with a visit to the church and stone cross, or view the village as a stop on a 35-km, moderately difficult route. The specific route via Vysoké Mýto and Pekla makes clear the regional context in which this connection lies.

River course, historical waterway connection and railway line

The Loučná crosses the eastern third of Hrušová from south to north. This alignment shapes the village’s spatial orientation and also forms the landscape connection of the cycling route. A historically significant waterway reference is the Loučná 5 fishing district. It extended from the weir of the former Papírna mill in Hrušová to the river’s sources. The river course in the village and the former fishing district covered different spatial extents.

The Choceň–Litomyšl railway line is also relevant for placing Hrušová in its wider context: it touches the western edge of the village. Together with the course of the Loučná, this creates two different lines of orientation – one in the east along the river and one along the railway line at the western edge of the village.
