Discover Česká Třebová
Česká Třebová can be discovered from several perspectives: as a destination for active days at Peklák, as a place with railway and Velorex history, and as a starting point for encounters with remarkable cultural monuments and regional traditions. Families travelling together will find different ways to enjoy the area – from the routes and trails at Peklák and vivid museum exhibits to a special culinary event in November.
Active experiences at Peklák
The Peklák bike resort in Česká Třebová has 25 km of routes and 19 km of trails across six difficulty levels. This allows an active stay to be tailored to different preferences, without all the experiences following the same type of route. In winter, the area is served by the Peklák ski resort, with an 800 m red ski slope and an 80 m blue slope for ski lessons. It also offers evening skiing and a ski school with a conveyor belt. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between extensive bike routes, a red descent and a blue slope specifically intended for ski lessons.
Railways and Velorex at the Městské muzeum
The Městské muzeum Česká Třebová combines two very different subjects. The permanent railway exhibition presents the history of rail travel since the mid-19th century, focusing on the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. It thus makes a historical development a museum subject in its own right, rather than treating the railway merely as an individual exhibit.
The Velorex exhibition focuses on the creation and development of the OS-KAR vehicle, which was later called Velorex. It includes a scale model that children can sit in. This specific part of the exhibition makes the technology accessible not only through texts and objects, but also allows visitors to encounter the model directly. In addition, the museum offers a short Velorex ride of approximately 4 km lasting 10 to 15 minutes through the town centre and surrounding area. The long Velorex ride can last up to an hour and is limited to a maximum of 40 km. For a day trip, you can therefore choose between a short loop and a longer ride covering a considerably greater distance.
Cultural sites, traditions and a special landscape viewpoint
One of the notable cultural sites is the Rotunda svaté Kateřiny. It is the only surviving Romanesque rotunda in the Pardubický kraj region. At the Jabkancová pouť held at the Rotunda svaté Kateřiny in November, you can try českotřebovské “jabkance”: potato pancakes filled with quark. The event thus combines a specific location, a set time of year and a regional speciality.
The Kaple Panny Marie Pomocné is an immovable cultural monument in the Neoclassical style. Legends are associated with it about miraculous healings of pilgrims who used the water from the so-called Pavlova studánka and prayed for the help of the Virgin Mary. These accounts should be understood as legends; they complement the chapel’s architectural significance with a tradition of religious storytelling.
The Kostel sv. Jakuba Většího regularly hosts concerts featuring organ music. During the season, the church is open to the general public and tourists. A visit can therefore be viewed not only in terms of the building itself, but also through its musical events and seasonal opening.
Another site lies on the edge of the village of Kozlov: the Chaloupka Maxe Švabinského, house number 50, is located below the summit of Kozlovský kopec. Visitors can see an interior there in which time seems to have stood still more than a century ago. At Kozlovský kopec, the viewing platform of the Rozhledna Kozlovský kopec can also be reached via 133 steps. In summer, the area offers a range of routes for cyclists and tourists.
