Cotkytle between Church History and Natural Landscapes

Cotkytle combines a remarkable church history with natural sites in the Herbortice district and the organized Pochod Viliama Havrdy march between Cotkytle and the chapel in Janoušov. Historical Traces in the Village

The parish church of the Ascension of the Lord in Cotkytle is first mentioned in 1350. In 1726, it was completely rebuilt and dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. Around the village, you will also encounter several distinctive crosses with clearly dated histories: a stone cross by the church was created in 1797, while another stone cross was erected around the turn of 1856 and 1857. Near Cotkytle, an iron cross on a stone pedestal was added in 1883.

Protected Nature in Herbortice

The V dole nature reserve lies in the valley of the Hraniční potok in the Herbortice district of the municipality of Cotkytle. The Selský potok natural monument is also located in Herbortice. Both names represent distinct natural themes within the municipality and complement the village’s historical focus with a landscape perspective. Music, Traditions and Events

The family music mini-festival COTKYTLéto was held for the second time in 2024. Local and regional artists performed at this edition, which also included a children’s programme. At the Sraz rodáků a přátel obce, the annual gathering of former residents and friends of the municipality, the NOA band played music for listening and dancing throughout the day and evening in 2024.

Poslední leč is a recurring hunting event in Cotkytle. The 2024 programme included hunting specialities, dancing entertainment with the Méďa Band and a raffle. The pilgrimage programme on 14 and 15 May 2022 included a dance evening, refreshments at the cultural centre and children’s attractions. These dates show different sides of local event life, but each is tied to its documented year.

Cycling and Organized Routes

Cycling is also associated with a recurring club-organized activity. With the exception of one Covid year, Tělovýchovná jednota Cotkytle organized an annual cycling tour to a fishery in the Polish border region. For 21 June 2026, it organized a cycling tour to a fishery in Kamieńczyk; the meeting point was at 9 a.m. in front of the municipal office in Cotkytle.

Another organized activity was the Pochod Viliama Havrdy between Cotkytle and the chapel in Janoušov. The march took place for the first time in 2023 and for the second time in 2024. The route of the first edition in 2023 was 8 km long and offered refreshment options.
